I am getting the studio ready for next weekend…Art-A-Whirl, but it’s also Mother’s Day which bring to mind the full circle of work…. where it started!
The little coat was made by my mom for me when I was a toddler. It was made from hand-me-down fabric my “big city” great aunts would send to make children’s clothes… so this lovely wool with glass buttons and embroidered by my mom was made with love and worn so much the lining wore out. My mom never got around to put in a new lining because I out grew the coat.
The painting is called “Tender” which is my abbreviation of “tender as a mother’s heart” which was used to describe a friend’s award-winning angel food cake recipe! Seemed perfect for this painting.
My mom passed away at 100 years of age in 2015 but she is always here in the things she made… the things I paint…. the clothes, fabrics, shoes and hats that are my inspiration.
Paint on and visit next weekend if you are nearby!
